SUBJECT-OBJECT PROOF #2
Paul Mpagi Sepuya will be presenting a new video and interactive installation work, Subject-Object Proof no.2, at the PULSE New York art fair March 27 - 30. The work is the second in a developing series addressing the dynamics of looking, between the parties involved in making the portrait.
no.2 (Christian) presents a portrait of the young man, behind which is a room with two video projections, of the sitter, and the artist, on opposite facing walls. Sepuya says, "I had known Christian casually over the years and we knew who each other was. One night out he came up and said he really wanted to sit for a portrait. Well here it is. But I am interested in not only making the portrait, but creating a work that addresses that point at which the private act becomes an exhibitionist performance; the precarious
balance of power between the Artist and Object, and the awareness on both parts of the final viewer."
